Specialty Pharmacy Update

Effective July 1, 2006, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) is streamlining the Specialty Pharmacy/ Injectable Drug Network. The Specialty Pharmacy Drug Network is available to supply providers with select injectable drugs for the treatment of BCBSNC patients.

With this network, physicians can have member-specific, dose-specific drugs delivered directly to the office, and the network vendors will bill BCBSNC directly for the drug.

Effective July 1, 2006, Caremark and McKesson will be providing the full network of specialty pharmacy vendors:

  • Caremark 1-800-571-3922
  • McKesson 1-888-456-7274

Both Caremark and McKesson are familiar with our specialty pharmacy procedures and have the capability to provide comprehensive specialty pharmacy services including the expanded list of specialty pharmacy drugs.

After June 30, 2006 specialty pharmacy vendors previously part of the specialty pharmacy network may still be eligible to provide home infusion services, if participating for home infusion services independently of their former specialty pharmacy agreement.

The specialty pharmacy network will continue to be evaluated to ensure that it meets the ongoing needs of our providers and members. After July 1, 2006, please refer to our Web site for the most current information regarding our specialty pharmacy network.

Please remember BCBSNC Medicare Supplement subscribers are excluded from this program.
