No-cost rides to medical appointments
What is SafeRide?
If you don’t have easy access to transportation, getting to the doctor can be a challenge. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) may be able to help.
Through our pilot program with SafeRide℠, eligible Blue Cross NC health plan members can get no‑cost rides to and from non‑emergency medical appointments.
Enrollment is only available by phone and depends on program availability.
How SafeRide works
Helping you get the care you need
SafeRide can be used for a variety of non‑emergency medical visits, including:
- Doctor’s office appointments for you or your children
- Follow‑up visits after surgery, injury, or illness
- Routine screenings, such as cancer screenings
- Visits to help manage chronic conditions
- Urgent care (when it’s not an emergency)
Seeing your doctor regularly supports your overall health and helps you stay on track with care plans. When transportation isn’t a barrier, it’s easier to manage ongoing health needs and address concerns before they become more serious.
SafeRide is not for emergencies. If you need emergency care, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Eligibility and program availability
SafeRide is available to:
- Blue Cross NC members who purchase their own health insurance (not through an employer)
- Covered family members age 18 and older
This transportation benefit is part of a pilot program and is offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Availability may change, and the program may be updated or discontinued at any time.
