Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is updating the names of select Commercial pharmacy programs on January 1, 2027. These updates are intended to create more consistent program names over time. Medicare pharmacy programs are not included in this effort.
During the transition period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, prescribers and pharmacies may see both current and new program names referenced in communications, resources, and systems. Future guidance will be shared on timing for full adoption of new names.
Updates include both name-only changes and select programmatic changes that will be communicated separately.
What prescribers need to know
No changes to prescribing workflows are expected because of these naming updates unless otherwise communicated.
Patient eligibility, coverage, benefits, utilization management requirements, and clinical criteria changes will be limited and follow existing policy update processes.
