Effective December 1, 2026, all in-network Commercial providers should access prior authorization approval letters exclusively through the Carelon Medical Benefits Management (Carelon) ProviderPortal. At that time, Commercial approval letters will no longer be faxed or mailed to providers. ProviderPortal offers convenient, secure, on-demand access to your authorization correspondence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Letters for the following Commercial lines of business programs can be accessed:

  • Cardiology
  • Diagnostic Imaging Management
  • Medical Oncology
  • Musculoskeletal (MSK)
  • Rehabilitation
  • Sleep Study
  • Surgical

Note the following situations will remain unchanged:

  • Requests from Out-of-Network providers;
  • Provider Requests for Medicare Advantage, Experience Health, and D-SNP members will not be impacted;
  • Member-facing letters;
  • All other provider letters outside of “Approval Letters”

How to Access an Authorization Letter:

  1. Log in to the Carelon ProviderPortal.
    Visit the Carelon ProviderPortal via Blue e to log in. If you do not already have an account, you will need to register for Blue e access.
  2. Locate the member and authorization/case.
    Have the applicable member and case/order information available to search for and locate the authorization.
  3. Open the applicable case/order.
    Once you have located the appropriate case, open the case details to access available correspondence.
  4. View the authorization letter.
    Available correspondence associated with the case will appear in the “Letters” section. Select “View” next to the applicable letter to open and review the correspondence.
