What is the difference between a deductible and copayment?

The deductible is the amount you need to pay for covered services in a benefit period before Blue Cross NC begins paying for covered services. It generally doesn't apply to services with a copayment, except for emergency room visits or inpatient stays. In those cases, the copayment are combined with the applicable deductible.

A copayment is a fixed amount you pay for certain covered services, usually collected at the time of service. Copayments do not count toward the individual or family benefit period deductible.
