At our Blue Cross NC center in Greensboro, Delphine has built a reputation for being more than just a trusted resource – she’s a steady hand and a caring listener when members need it most.

“The most challenging and rewarding part of my job is helping those members who haven’t yet gotten resolution for an issue,” Delphine says. “They are frustrated, understandably, and they want immediate answers.”

For Delphine, it’s about more than solving problems – it’s about making people feel cared for. “When members come to me, they are sometimes ready to release a heavy load,” she says. “I listen, I empathize, and I do everything I can to help them find a solution.”

A connection beyond coverage

One day, a Medicare Advantage member – Ms. P – stopped by the Blue Cross NC Center in Greensboro after hearing it was a place where members can get one-on-one help, in person. She was worried about a mass in her mouth and needed a CT scan to get answers. Ms. P wanted to make sure the scan would be approved and covered by her Medicare Advantage HMO plan, and she trusted the store would help guide her through the process.

That’s exactly what our Centers are designed for – a welcoming space where members can sit down with a specialist, get answers face-to-face, and leave feeling confident about their coverage.

Delphine greeted Ms. P with a warm smile and got to work right away. She checked the authorization status for the CT scan and discovered an issue. Delphine made a necessary update – helping get the scan approved and giving Ms. P one less thing to worry about.

With the details handled, Delphine took a moment to connect on a more personal level. She asked about Ms. P’s day, and soon they were talking about her family’s farm – a beautiful property that had been passed down for generations – and the wedding venue she managed there. “She told me the farm had been in her family for generations,” Delphine recalls.

By the time Ms. P left, the two were fast friends. They hugged goodbye and made plans for Delphine to visit the farm the following week – and Delphine promised to bring one of her famous red velvet cakes, Ms. P’s favorite.

A sweet celebration

When Delphine arrived for her visit, she was greeted with joyful news. “She told me the most amazing news,” Delphine says. “The CT scan showed the mass in her mouth had disappeared. It was entirely gone.”

There would be no surgery. Everything was going to be okay.

So, they did what friends do – they celebrated. With smiles, hugs, and a slice (or two) of that red velvet cake.

For Delphine, it was a reminder of why she loves what she does. “Being there for our members isn’t just about answering questions,” she says. “It’s about showing up for people – with empathy, with kindness, and with heart.”

This story is just one example of what happens every day across our Centers – where compassion meets action. Our teams are here to listen, problem-solve, and help members feel cared for in moments that matter most.

Because health care isn’t just about coverage – it’s about connection.

If you or someone you know needs help navigating their coverage, our doors are open. Find a Blue Cross NC location near you.
