Signature Programs

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation (BCBSNC Foundation) has identified a number of program areas where there is keen interest and support, as well as need. The Foundation serves as a driving force behind the creation and development of these unique partnerships, largely developed in concert with other nonprofit organizations. Many of the Signature Programs have evolved from their early stages to larger initiatives that communities across the state have come to know and enjoy.

Be Active Kids

Be Active Kids

Be Active Kids focuses on teaching preschool children about the importance of nutrition and physical activity. Day-care providers are given hands-on training, along with a free kit containing teaching materials and curriculum guides. The program is available in all 100 counties in North Carolina.

Breast Health Project

The Breast Health Project is dedicated to educating women about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. The focal point of the Breast Health Project is the Button Chair, a one-of-a-kind traveling exhibit designed to promote good health, early detection and breast cancer awareness.

Community TIEs Awards Program

The Community TIEs Awards program was created to recognize nonprofit organizations that are excelling in their services to the community. The program ties directly to the Foundation’s mission and is adaptable to a wide variety of situations. The three award areas include use of Technology, Innovation, and Evaluation.

Healthy Community Institute

Healthy Community InstituteThe Healthy Community Institute for Nonprofit Excellence provides training to strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofit organizations throughout North Carolina. It is a two-day intensive course that engages three- to four-person teams in a comprehensive board and staff training curriculum. The program is free of charge and is typically offered during the spring and fall of each year.
