Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence

In our Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence focus area, the Foundation seeks to increase the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians.

Specifically, our objectives are to:

1. Measurably improve a nonprofit organization's ability to:

  • Improve program delivery and impact (including efficiency, reach, effectiveness, etc.)
  • Improve the ability to raise funds and create long-term financial stability
  • Improve or expand the board of directors' contributions to the organization
  • Improve the ability to enhance public awareness of the organization, its stakeholders needs and/or its mission
  • Improve operational efficiencies and infrastructure (could include hardware, software, system change, etc.)
  • Improve the ability to collaborate/partner with other organizations in order to better serve stakeholders

2. Measurably improve a nonprofit leader's ability to:

  • Identify and share best practices
  • Raise funds and create long-term financial stability for their organization
  • Utilize communications mediums (Web, media, etc.) to raise public awareness about the organization and their mission
  • Other activities that will measurably increase a nonprofit leader's ability to serve his/her organization that are not listed above, will also be considered

The Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence focus area is unique in that it currently does not include a competitive grant process. Instead, this focus area is comprised of three Foundation programs: Healthy Community Institute for Nonprofit Excellence, the Community TIEs Award Program and the Duke Advanced Leadership Program.
