In our Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence focus area, the Foundation seeks to increase the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians.
Specifically, our objectives are to:
1. Measurably improve a nonprofit organization's ability to:
- Improve program delivery and impact (including efficiency, reach, effectiveness, etc.)
- Improve the ability to raise funds and create long-term financial stability
- Improve or expand the board of directors' contributions to the organization
- Improve the ability to enhance public awareness of the organization, its stakeholders needs and/or its mission
- Improve operational efficiencies and infrastructure (could include hardware, software, system change, etc.)
- Improve the ability to collaborate/partner with other organizations in order to better serve stakeholders
2. Measurably improve a nonprofit leader's ability to:
- Identify and share best practices
- Raise funds and create long-term financial stability for their organization
- Utilize communications mediums (Web, media, etc.) to raise public awareness about the organization and their mission
- Other activities that will measurably increase a nonprofit leader's ability to serve his/her organization that are not listed above, will also be considered
The Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence focus area is unique in that it currently does not include a competitive grant process. Instead, this focus area is comprised of three Foundation programs: Healthy Community Institute for Nonprofit Excellence, the Community TIEs Award Program and the Duke Advanced Leadership Program.
