At the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation our primary objective is to fund clearly defined, innovative grants that further our mission of improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians. Recently, we strengthened our overall funding approach by increasing our commitment to proactively support organizations and programs capable of attaining long-term, sustained results.

BCBSNC Foundation grant making is based on three primary focus areas, which, through specifically defined goals and results sought, are designed to maximize impact on communities across the state.

These focus areas include:

While the basic Funding Guidelines are the same, the Health of Vulnerable Populations and Healthy Active Communities focus areas each have their own application process and grant cycle. Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence is unique in that it is comprised of three Foundation programs, and does not currently include a competitive grant process.

An interactive presentation has been created to outline the Foundation's focus areas and grant proposal process.

The grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation has had a tremendous impact on our association. For the first time, North Carolina Association of Free Clinics (NCAFC) is able to offer financial support to existing free clinics and to communities working to create a free clinic.
