Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence

Three programs are currently available as part of the Community Impact through Nonprofit Excellence Focus Area:

Healthy Community Institute for Nonprofit Excellence (HCI): The goal of HCI is to strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofit organizations in North Carolina. This special two-day intensive course engages three or four person teams in a comprehensive board and staff-training curriculum. The Healthy Community Institute is held at least twice a year and is open to any nonprofit in North Carolina at no charge. Click to learn more about the next Institute.

Community TIEs Award Program: This program was developed to recognize organizations that are excelling in their services to the community. Each year, the Foundation partners with a statewide nonprofit to identify member/affiliate groups that excel in their use of Technology, Innovation or Evaluation. In each category, one member/affiliate group will be selected to receive an award of unrestricted funds. If you are a statewide organization and you are interested in partnering with the Foundation on Community TIES, please email foundation@bcbsnc.com.

Duke Advanced Leadership Program: The Duke Nonprofit Program's Certificate in Nonprofit Management is a statewide program through Duke Continuing Studies. Completion of the Healthy Community Institute can secure five hours toward the 50 hours required to earn the Nonprofit Management Certificate. Recently, an Advanced Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership component, partially funded by the BCBSNC Foundation, was added to this initiative. This comprehensive program offers students the opportunity to enhance leadership skills through a theoretical study using reflective practices.
