Annual Member Mailing Begins This Week

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) will begin mailing an informational postcard on November 7 to approximately 510,000 commercial subscribers. Titled "How Your Insurance Works," this mailing will direct members to an online resource (also available in Spanish) that includes a downloadable PDF where they can learn about their rights as a member, as well as how to get the most out of their insurance benefits. Topics include:

• Preventive Care and Why It's Important
• How To Obtain A Copy of Our Privacy Notice
• Protecting Your Well-Being
• The Appeals Process
• Official Notice of Mastectomy Benefits
• What Is Utilization Management
• Recent Accomplishments and Improvements
• Contact Information
• How To Get Information In Spanish

In order to reduce printing and mailing costs, the postcard replaces the previous "Guide to a Healthier You" annual member publication, while still enabling us to meet NCQA requirements regarding annual notification to members of their rights and how to use them.
