2009 Spring Provider Conferences

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) is a leader in delivering innovative health care products, services and information to more than 3.7 million members, including approximately 900,000 served on behalf of other Blue Plans. For 76 years, the company has served its customers by offering health insurance at a competitive price and has served the people of North Carolina through support of community organizations, programs and events that promote good health. We recognize and value the care and commitment made by North Carolina providers sharing in our common goal for improving the health of the people of our State. During this time of economic awareness our shared commitments unify us even further, as affordability and preventable expenditure join the forefront of our combined health care efforts. During the months of May and June, we invited you to come to provider conferences held across our State, so that we could explore together ways of better administrative interactions and exchange ideas for an improved focus on care delivery. Q & A from a Popular TV Game Show  

Included as part of the general session was an overview of electronic data transactions. The presentation was designed for audience participation and formatted based on a popular television game show. BCBSNC Best Practices 

Whether you're a seasoned professional at filing BCBSNC claims and reconciling accounts, arranging care for your patients with BCBSNC health care benefits or you're just starting out, this presentation is for you. BCBSNC Best Practices offers a comprehensive overview of BCBSNC, including new initiatives and methods to improve your claims response time and save administrative costs for your health care business.

Inter-Plan Programs (Blue Card®) 

The BlueCard® program was introduced in 1994 (15 years ago) to allow Blues' members traveling or living in another BCBS Plan's service area the ability to receive the same health care benefits and services that they would with their home BCBS Plan. Today BlueCard® is part of Inter-Plan Programs, which includes BlueCard® and other national accounts. Please view the Inter-Plan Programs presentation to learn more about arranging care and providing services to the approximately 900,000 BlueCard® members eligible for care within North Carolina.

Blue eSM Enhancements and Reminders  

BCBSNC continues to improve and enhance Blue eSM. At the conferences eSolutions staff was excited to share new capabilities and provide training on enhancements that included registration for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Fee Schedules, accessing Notification and Explanation of Payments (NOP/EOP) to support paperless processes. Also, hospital staff received training on the new Authorization Request link available in Blue eSM. This link replaces the Admission Notification transaction. Providers also were given a preview of the new Blue eSM Home Page scheduled to be implemented later in the year. This presentation is for all Blue eSM users. Federal Employees Health Benefits Program 

This program offers an overview of updates and best business practices to help you better care for your patients enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

Decision Maker - Offered to Office Administrators and Practice Management 

The environment of health care delivery is changing as we speak, and together we must foresee and confront new challenges with expertise and cost efficiency. The Decision Maker session was designed specifically for office administrators and practice managers to learn about BCBSNC educational programs, problem solving, and current business trends affecting the health care businesses they manage.
