Diagnostic Imaging Management (DIM) Provider Update - June 2011

Combination CT Pelvis/Abdomen Exams in AIM Portal

As you know, new CPT codes were created effective 1/1/2011 to represent the combination service of pelvic and abdominal CT. In order to ensure that the combination CT service codes are included on authorizations granted by American Imaging Management (AIM), ordering providers should choose "CT Abdomen/Pelvis Combination" when selecting the "Exam Description" in the AIM Portal the beginning of the request rather than ordering the exams separately. In most cases, this will also allow providers to enter symptoms and diagnoses only once in order to obtain the authorization for both exams. If one of the exams is "added-on" to an existing authorization within the 72-hour window after the service, the combination codes will also be sent to BCBSNC.

AIM Portal Now Available for National Blue Cross Members

BCBSNC and AIM are pleased to announce that, as of June 25, 2011, participating providers will be able to use the AIM ProviderPortal to access information and order exams for most members enrolled in Blue plans for which AIM manages diagnostic imaging. Therefore, registered users of the AIM portal in North Carolina will be able to verify pre-certification requirements for members in most other AIM Blue plans and begin the authorization process if required by using the current Blue e-accessed AIM portal. This functionality will require the user to provide at least two of the following member identifiers: name, ID or date of birth. Currently, this applies to most AIM-managed members in the following states: NC, TX, IL, ID, VT, PA and most Anthem plans. For other AIM-managed states, the members' pre-authorization requirement can be verified but the actual request cannot currently be initiated online.
