BCBSNC Launches New Website for Military Members and Their Providers

Ten percent of adult North Carolinians have served in the armed forces — the third largest such population per capita in the United States — many of whom are BCBSNC customers.

  • Have you ever stopped to think about how you provide care for veterans, military servicemen, servicewomen and their families?
  • Have you ever considered their unique set of needs when it comes to care?

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) has just launched a new online resource for current and former military service members, their families, and their providers.

Red, White & Blue NCSM, is comprised of two micro sites — one for members and another for the providers who treat them. BCBSNC collaborated with the North Carolina Focus on Service Members, Veterans and Their Families to create and provide training, as well as include useful third-party links and toolkits for providers to use to help these patients receive the best care possible.

The Red, White & Blue NC provider site  (bcbsnc.com/redwhiteandbluencprovider) is broken into three components:  BCBSNC-developed training, third-party training (via Citizen Soldier) and useful third-party links. The BCBSNC-developed training provides valuable resource information and demonstrates communication techniques that have proven to be effective with people who have endured stressful situations — topics include taking a military history, military family issues, and dealing with crisis. These free, online modules last about an hour each. Third-party modules provide continuing education units (CEUs) upon course completion.

The Red, White & Blue NC member site (bcbsnc.com/redwhiteandbluencmember) is available to the public and offers resources specifically chosen for current and former military service members and their families, covering topics such as health care, education, employment, parenting, dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder and much more.
