Medication Adherence: The 90-Day Supply Solution
For some members who take maintenance medications, refilling prescriptions every month can be a major barrier to medication adherence. Filling 90-day supply prescriptions can help patients adhere to their prescribed medication therapies, and patients are less likely to miss a dose if they’re making fewer trips to the pharmacy.
What You Need to Know About the 90-Day Supply
- 90-Day Prescription Fills
If appropriate, consider writing 90-day supply prescriptions for maintenance medications that treat long-term conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol.
Members will be charged for three months of generic co-payments, brand co-payments, or coinsurance, based on their plan.
- Pharmacy Network
Patients can purchase 90-day supplies of maintenance medications at Extended Supply Network (ESN) retail pharmacies, or through our network mail order pharmacy, PrimeMail by Walgreens Mail. Patients can find a list of pharmacies via the online pharmacy locator, or they can call the customer service number on the back of their health insurance ID card to locate an ESN retail pharmacy.
Please encourage adherence by providing 90-day prescriptions for maintenance drugs. This may help your patients achieve better compliance with taking medications, as prescribed.
