Edgepark to Be Sole Distributor of Insulin Pumps and CGMs
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) will be implementing a new, statewide durable medical equipment (DME) network effective August 1, 2013. As part of our new DME network, Edgepark Medical Supplies will be the sole, in-network distributor for insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), and related supplies for these two devices.
We wanted to inform you of this upcoming change to our DME network, so that you can begin referring your commercial BCBSNC members, including State Health Plan and Federal Employee Program members, to Edgepark for their prescribed insulin pump and CGM-related needs and supplies as of August 1.
We are helping our members save money on their health care expenses by coordinating purchases for these items through one in-network vendor, which also helps to ensure that they receive the best possible product pricing for these specific items.
Key Points to Know
- New orders for insulin pumps and CGMs (does not apply to current rentals) must be submitted to Edgepark as of August 1 in order for the member to receive in-network benefits.
- Members currently using insulin pumps or CGMs will need to place future related supply orders for these two devices with Edgepark as of August 1, as well as notify Edgepark of their current arrangement in order to continue to receive in-network benefits for either device for the duration of their current rental period even if it goes beyond August 1.
- This exclusive arrangement with Edgepark does not include general diabetic supplies, such as test strips, which members can continue to purchase through the in-network provider of their choice.
- The associated HCPCs codes for these two devices and related supplies will be removed from the new DME fee schedule as of August 1 and will be considered at the member’s out-of-network benefit level if submitted by a DME provider other than Edgepark.
High-volume prescribing endocrinologists will receive more information directly from Edgepark or their BCBSNC Strategic Provider Relationships representative in the coming weeks. Please contact the Provider Blue LineSM at 1.800.214.4844 if you need assistance.
