Digital ID Cards Now Available for Individual Over-65 and Large Group Members

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) launched digital health insurance ID cards for individual, under-65 and small group members on Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans earlier this year. Digital ID cards are now also available for individual, over-65 and large group members. Once a member’s ID card is printed and mailed, it is also available through Blue Connect.

Key Points

  • Unlike Blue Cross NC’s temporary ID cards, digital ID cards look and can be used exactly like members’ printed cards.
  • Members can log in to Blue Connect and print a copy of their digital ID card, or they can share the digital card with providers from their smartphones.
  • There are no immediate plans to suppress printed ID cards, though we will launch a future “Go Green” campaign where members can opt-out of receiving printed cards.
