BlueCard Claims Incorrectly Filed as Corrected Claims to Be Returned

We previously advised that starting in August, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) would no longer process corrected claims for BlueCard® services in instances when no previously submitted claims are on file with us. As a courtesy, BCBSNC has refrained from mailing these claims back to providers. Instead, we have manually processed these claims as original claims. However, beginning in October, we will no longer have the ability to continue this practice due to a modification in Blue Cross Blue Shield Association software. Consistent with BCBSNC’s filing requirements, we will begin rejecting and mailing back claims that have been submitted as corrected claims, when there are no original (previously submitted) claims on file.
