AIM Diagnostic Imaging Management Services
Release Date: December 7, 2012
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Diagnostic Imaging Management (DIM) program administered by AIM Specialty HealthSM (AIM) is designed to improve the quality and appropriateness of services for our members and reduce health care costs.
It is important to remember that while other Blue Plans utilize AIM as their radiology vendor, services for BlueCard members from non-North Carolina, Blue Cross (BC) and/or Blue Shield (BS) Plans are not included in the BCBSNC's radiology management program administered through AIM. All radiology services must be arranged following the other Plans’ processes and authorization guidelines. AIM programs and services can vary for other Blue Plan members, and from Plan to Plan membership. It is always important to verify a member’s individual benefits and program criteria, when applicable to the member’s coverage plan.
Effective January 1, 2013, AIM will begin offering a Specialty Care Shopper program to certain other Blue Plans and their Blue Plan members in all 50 states, including national employer groups such as Walmart, PepsiCo and Kroger. This program will involve member engagement to offer members direction to similar quality, lower-cost sites for MRI/MRA and CT scans. AIM will be using the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s National Consumer Cost Tool (NCCT) data to determine redirection opportunities for members. Members will not be denied access to services if they do not choose the lower-cost options.
Please note that while the Specialty Care Shopper program applies with respect to certain other Blue Plans as described above, BCBSNC’s DIM program administered by AIM does not include the Specialty Shopper program, at this time.
