Clarification of HIPAA Portability Regulations

Dear Employer Groups with BCBSNC Coverage,

Please see the document below for important information about the "final" HIPAA portability rules applicable to Plan years beginning on or after July 1, 2005. The document features:

• clarification on the right to change benefit options,
• an explanation of the expanded special enrollment criteria for certain individuals who lose coverage under a group health plan, and
• a description of the applicability of HIPAA portability to HSAs (Health Savings Accounts) and HDHPs (High Deductible Health Plans).
