Important NewsUSERRA Talking Points and Q&AApril 25, 2006Dear BCBSNC Employer Groups, USERRA - it stands for the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. What does USERRA do? USERRA requires employers to give employees who commence service in the Uniformed Services the right to continue insurance coverage under the Group Health Plan for themselves and their covered dependents for up to 24 months. Why are we hearing about it today? The law was enacted by the Department of Labor in 1994, but the final rules became effective on January 18, 2006. The talking points/FAQ below have been revised to reflect the latest rules. What changed on January 18? Basically, the time frames have been extended so that the employer must offer coverage for 24 months (instead of 18). USERRA Talking Points and Q&A - See the link below for the revised talking points and Q&A. We will include the text in the Group Administrator Guide when it is updated this summer. Thank you!
