Investing in America’s Health
Blue Cross and Blue Shield Companies Contributed Nearly $400 million to Community Health Initiatives in 2014*
Our commitment to being champions for all healthcare consumers extends well beyond the market-leading products and services that deliver peace of mind to our members.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association has released Investing in America's Health 2014 (pdf), a report that highlights some of the ways that the 36 Blue-affiliated companies have led or supported efforts in three main focus areas:
- Enabling healthy living
- Improving health care access
- Improving health care quality and affordability
In the report, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Foundation was recognized as a founding supporter of Kids in Parks. In 2009, Kids in Parks started with a single TRACK on the Blue Ridge Parkway to help address the growing concern around childhood obesity. Today, there are now more than 100 TRACK trails in seven states plus the District of Columbia. As one of the only health-related nature programs in the country with data demonstrating results, the program has been endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, recognized by the White House with a “Let’s Move! Champion of Change” award, and reviewed favorably as a practice-tested intervention by the Center for Training and Research Translation.*
