Blue Companies Contribute $356 million to Community Health and Wellness Programs
Did you know that 100 million Americans – 1 in 3 – rely on Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to provide access to safe, affordable quality health care?1
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation invest in our communities to improve health care quality, access and outcomes. Beyond serving our members, we are creating initiatives to improve the health of all the communities in which we operate. Together, we're working to tackle some of the toughest health challenges facing our state today.
In 2012, BCBSNC, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation and other Blue plans contributed $356 million to fund programs to better the health and wellness of our members and the communities in which we operate.2
In the report, Investing in America's Health 2012 (pdf), the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association highlights some of the ways that the 37 Blue-affiliated companies have led or supported efforts in four main focus areas:
- Improving health care access
- Improving health care quality and safety
- Enabling healthy living
- Supporting community and social causes
The report also highlights programs throughout the country, including BCBSNC for our collaboration with the UNC School of Medicine to establish a Physician's Assistant Master's Program for returning veterans.
