Our 2008 annual report shows how we walked the talk. We literally walked from the mountains to the coast during the Million Step MarchSM1, encouraging thousands of others along the way to commit themselves to regular physical activity. But we did far more than that — encouraged healthy workplaces, emphasized preventive health and wellness, promoted cost-effective drug options and worked toward greater health system quality and safety. As the economy took a nosedive, we remained a model of stability, reliability and sound financial management. We processed more than $10.7 billion in medical claims. We ended the year with 3.5 months of claims and medical expenses in reserves, ensuring that our customers can count on us when they need us most. We've walked the talk for more than 75 years, and it shows. Our membership exceeded 3.7 million customers in 2008, a vote of confidence that we continue to work hard to earn.
