We're also committed to our employees' health and well-being. We take our employees' health seriously and promote a culture of wellness within our company. As a health care company, we model healthy behaviors for our members.
That means helping our employees make healthy habits part of each day. We encourage healthy habits with walking trails, our employee gym, onsite weight management programs and available fresh produce deliveries for employees to take home. We also offer financial rewards to employees to encourage healthy lifestyles.
Working at BCBSNC is not only personally rewarding, it makes a difference the lives of millions of people. We help improve the health and well-being of all North Carolinians. Our employees volunteer their time and talent in communities across the state.
We sponsor a variety of volunteer programs that our employees proudly take part in. In 2014, our employees:
- Built a KaBOOM! playground in just six hours to benefit more than 1,000 children in Fayetteville's Clark Park.
- Joined 1,000 other volunteers to sort enough rice and beans for 170,000 meals at Sort-a-Rama, a special event hosted by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
- Provided weekend meals for 150 local students each week during the school year through the Backpack Buddies program.
- Hit the pavement in support of the American Diabetes Association, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the March of Dimes. Our employees raised $54,000 for these organizations.
- Donated more than $1,000,000 to nonprofits through our annual employee giving campaign and matching contributions from BCBSNC.
